Glen Moore Mills
Located at northeast corner of Pa 82 & Fairview Road in village of Glenmoore.
In 1816, it was McKnights Grist Mill on a map of Chester Co. by John Melish published in Philadelphia in 1822. The contributor of the two vintage photos stated that the mill, in bad condition, was torn down by the State of Pennsylvania in order to widen and improve the road-no date available. This photo might be from the 1930's-1940's; as a larger addition for storage had been added.
On a map of Chester Co. Corrected, Embellished and Published by T. J. Kennedy of Westchester in 1856, R.I. Barnes-Philadelphia from original surveys by S.M. Painter & J.S. Bowen, the mill was known as Meyer's Grist Mlll. Later, the mill was known as Johnnny McFall's Mill, and still later as Glen Moore Mills as seem on the photos. This is undoutedly the older photo, probably from the 1ate 1920's.
The only remains of the mill appear to be some gate apparatus at the point of the headrace departure from the Branch of the Brandywine Creek.
