Frenchtown Mill / Lowrey Grist Mill
In Frenchtown, N.J. across the Delaware River from Uhlerstown Pa. On NJ 29/Trenton Ave. just south of junction with NJ 12 along Nishisakawick Creek. At 15 Trenton Avenue.
The 35'X 55' fieldstone/frame grist/feed mill may be the old Lowrey grist mill from the late 1700's/early 1800's. The lower story is fieldstone while the remainder is of frame material construction. Thomas Riche operated a mill at this location C.1758.
D. R. Worman purchased the present mill building in 1868. Worman is shown as the owner on the 1873 atlas. A two story stone and frame addition on the right side of the mill measures about 18'X 55'.
The Sanborn Fire Insurance map printed in 1897, shows D. R. Worman as the owner leasing the mill to Hoffman & Radcliff. The mill closed it doors as an operational livestock feed mill in the 1970's and was converted into apartments.
A good method of utilizing a historical resource to economical and preservational benefits.
The mill is today, the home of Euphoria Studio Spa & Boutique.
