The mill was built in c. 1790 and is 3.5 stories of stone in the middle of a small community. The mill is 3 bays wide by 5 bays long, in good condition with good roof. Mr. Stees owned various mills, saw mills, and distilleries in the Penn, Centre, Perry, and Franklin Townships. He built the Mount Pleasant and the Paxtonville Mills, owned the Stillwell Mill for a time. He owned the area where Fremont was built, but he gave it to Michael Eckert as payment for building the millrace to the Mount Pleasant Mill; which, he later sold to John Schnee in 1813 for $13,000. He operated a tavern in Middleburg in 1820 and in 1817, he was elected as a state representative for Union Co. He was of the Mennonite faith for many years when he passed from this life in 1845.
