One report says a mill was built at this location in 1872 and owned by William H. C. Kemp.

At the time it was run by a steam engine, built in Licking Co., Ohio. The mill had 4 runs (pairs) of buhrstones for stonemeal & flour grinding.

In 1878, James Gambrill, of Gambrills Mill/Araby Mill lore, purchased the mill. He installed the roller process in 1882.
