Flicksville Grist Mill
From the junction of Pa 191/N. Main St. & Pa 512/Market St., take N. Main St. south, it becomes S. Main St. Follow through New Village on into Flicksville. The mill is on the right just south of Springfield Rd. and prior to Flicksville Road going off to the right in town.
Samuel Rothrock built the first mill in 1792. Casper Flick operated the mill from 1802 through 1830, his son, Jesse Flick, having been killed in an accident at the mill. This may be the reason Flick terminated operation. It may have sat idle until 1838 when the new owner built the present mill.
The current mill has the date 1792 on the catshead referring to the first mill. The present mill building was built in 1838 by Michael Cressman. Constructed of wood frame with yellowish asbestos siding.
The mill had Thomas McFall as the proprietor from the late 1800's until 1924. The mill was then operated and owned by Clyde Moser, eventually being closed down by Arch Beck in 1960.
The tailrace from the mill from the bridge on Flicksville road immediately off of S. Main Street. The bridge goes on to cross Martin's Creek about 50' further west. The mill pond headrace is dry and grown over.
The catshead shows "built 1792". The earlier mill was built then, as this mill came later in 1838. The turbines and millstones have been taken out, but most of the other equipment remains. The cupola just behind the catshead is greatly unusual.
A one-room schoolhouse, now a residence, on the north side of Flicksville Road on the west side of the bridge over Martin's Creek, west of S. Main St. Basically, it is just across the creek from the back of the mill.
