Thomas Fitzwater came to the New World with William Penn in 1632. He bought 1000 acres of land between Township Line Rd. and Welsh Rd. His descendants built the mill in 1790 along with operating lime quarries. The lime was burned in limekilns to produce limestone with which to freshen the soil.

The lime was burned until 1926, and the mill on the Sandy Run Creek is now a private residence along Limekiln Pike/Pa 152 at Twining Road.
