Take the US 22 Alt exit from I-78 east of Phillipsburg, N.J. Go south on Still Valley Road for about 2.5 miles, turn right on Ch 639/Warren Glen-Bloomsbury Road for about 0.5 miles. Continue straight on Cr 519 south for about 0.4 miles. At Warren Glen, take Ch 627/Riegelsville-Warren Glen Road southwest for 3.5 miles, turning left on Mt. Joy Road at Finesville. Cross over the bridge into Holland Twp., Hunterdon Co. The mill is on the right corner once over the bridge at the junction with Bellis road.
The mill was built as Fines (Feins) Grist Mill in the early to mid 1800's, and was converted into a paper mill by John L. Reigel. The first paper was made in 1862 at this mill.
This photo was contributed by Sharon K. Smith of the Pohatcong Historical Society, Pohatcong Twp., Warren County, N. J. The photo came from the book, "Fifty Years of Paper Making: 1873-1923".
The mill structure is quite similar to the 1862 mill except that the peaked roof is gone and the rear structure has filled out more. Also some of the buildings to the west of the main mill are smaller that in the 1860's.
The hotel built by John Fine, who along with his brother Pillip, came from Germany to settle along the Musconetcong River at this location. It was later called the Reigel Hotel, when the Reigel Paper Mill was going strong.
The barn on the hotel property was built c. 1860 now has large wooden post running up each end with steel rods running through at each floor to keep the end walls stabalized.
When the Reigel Paper Co. moved to reigelsville, Taylor Stiles and Co., the manufacturers of knives, moved into the old paper mill. It is unknown whether the knife company is still located in the mill or if anyone is doing business in the old mill structure at present.
