Exit I-81 at Greencastle and go west on Pa 16 to the Square in Greencastle. Turn right on Carlisle St. and go about 4 blocks to the mill on the right along the Penn Central spur line.
The office of the present Farmer's Union Cooperatve Feed Mill.
In 1929 a group of farmers purchased an old brick yard and built a small co-op creamery.
At that time most of the milk was shipped to N.Y.
By 1938, things were not going so well. Then Milton S. Hershey, of Hershey Chocolate Bar fame, arrived on the scene and made a guarantee to purchase all the milk the farmers could produce.
As the business grew, the Co-op expanded into the feed business.
In 1972 the Hershey Corporation stopped purchasing the milk and the Co-op became an all livestock feed business.
In January of 2009, the mill was producing 2,000 tons of feed a day.
