After the bend, bear left at the first fork in the road (you are still on Country Club Road). Bear right at the second fork in the road, which is now Oyster Mill Road. The Oyster Mill Playhouse is on the right at the bottom of the hill at 1001 Oyster Mill Road.
Eyster Grist Mill, eyster being the Pennsylvania Dutch spelling for oyster, is a grist mill built along the Conodoquinet Creek in the 1820's.
The Metropolitan Repertory Co., which started out primarily in the fellowship hall of the Faith United Church of Christ, New Cumberland, Pa.in 1978, bought the old grist mill in 1988.
The old mill had been used as a general store, a dance halland more recently as a warehouse for plumbing supplies prior to purchase by the Met Rep Board of Directores. A second story was added in 1996, when some reconstruction was already being done to repair flood damage incurred that year. The playhouse has produced 175 productions since beginning in 1976, many receiving high critical acclaim. Eight plays/seasons were achieved the last four years, the most of any non-profit theatre group near Harrisburg.
