Eli Kendig / Sebastian Stevens Grist Mill
Eastbound on Sh 124, east of the city of York, turn right on Sh 24/Windsor Road, go about 3 miles, turn right on Ruppert Rd., go 0.5 miles, turn left on Kendale Rd. and go about 1-2 miles to the mill on the left after passing the junction with Steinfrit Rd. on the right.
The 2.5 story mill of stone and frame was built early in the 1800's by Eli Kendig.
The 40'X 35' mill is situated above Kreutz Creek. The flow of the creek is from the far side to the near side of the photo, so a rather long headrace must have been necessary to bring the water power to the mill.
The downstream end of the mill from the creekside which is still about 100 yards distant and much lower.
The upstream end of the mill which needs much tender loving care if it is going to survive many more years.
The sack hoist placed on the long side of the mill as a dormer. A turbine powered the mill which operated as a grist and feed mill.
The miller's house across the road where the present owner lives. The mill at 760 Kendale Road is owned by Leroy Marzinski. His son-in-law expressed a desire to repair and restore the mill to an operating condition.
Sebastian Stevens was a miller who ran the mill for Eli Kendig. The last operator of the mill was John Steinfelt, after whom Steinfelt Road about a half mile back toward Ruppert Road was named.
