Edisonville Mill / Herr Mill
One mile west of the center of Strasburg on Pa 741/Miller St. where Pa 741 becomes also Village Road.
Earliest mill on site was a saw mill, built 1759 to mid 1760's. The mill & property were sold to John Herr who in turn handed off to his son, Abraham, a "grist & saw mill. This 36'X 40' 3.5 story stone grist mill was built in 1768 by John Herr, and operated by Abraham until he died in 1800. John Herr, Abraham's son, started building the new 40'X 50' 3.5 story stone mill in 1822 and it was completed in that year by John's son & wife, Samuel & Fannie Herr. Henry Herr married Samuels's widow in 1839.
Daniel K. Herr bought the mill in 1860 and sold to B.D. Moyer in 1874. John Herr built the first grist mill in 1768, and his grandson, John Herr, and greatgrandson built the second, present mill in 1822. E. Neff was the owner/operator in 1899.
The mill saw duty as a flour, corn meal, grist, saw mill, and a distillery in its lifetime. An overshot wheel converted the power of Pequea Cr. falling a height of 7' as it traversed the 2600' of headrace. A tailrace of 50' guided the water back to the creek.
The mill was the Eagle Gun Museum through the 1960's, was converted to apartments in the 1970's to 1980's, sat vacant in 1995, and was for sale and occupied as a dwelling in 2004.
