In 1799 Frederick Diehl built an oil mill on his property. By 1801, he had added a sawmill, later adding a gristmill, and installing a carding mill in 1812.
All of these mills were operating when he died in 1816. Before his death, his son, David had been doing some of the milling. In 1824, the property was conveyed to David, but the mills went to another son, Samuel Diehl.
By this time there was a man named Nicholas Dietrick working for Samuel. In 1930, Samuel expanded the milling business by adding a fulling mill. Sam owned the mill property until his death in 1865.
His heirs sold the property to Uriah Wagner in 1866. One week later, Wagner sold it to Samuel M. Hershey. Hershey soon remodeled the mill and sold it to George A. Bowers in 1904. At some point around this time the mill was known as the Butler Roller Mills.
George sold the business to his son, G. Jordan Bowers, in 1908. Due to frequently needed repairs, the business soon declined, until 1915, when Jordan closed the mill. GPS: 77' 10.23W, 39' 55.58N
