Deshler Roller Mill/Maschmann Mills
From US 136 in Deshler, Nebraska, turn south on First St., go 5 blocks and turn left on Pearl Ave. Then go 4 blocks to Fifth St., turn right and go 2 blocks to Railway Ave. The mill is on the NE corner of Railway Ave. and Fifth St.
The Deshler Roller Mill, standing 3.5 stories and using a footprint of 30'X 70', is still an operating feed mill today in 2004.
The back view of the mill shows the attached storage buildings for feed and various steel bins for grain and corn storage and drying. The tractors and wagons give evidence of a thriving business.
This interior photo shows some of the large overhead pulleys operated by belts powered by electric motors. Wooden chutes, tubs,a sack cart, and an electric feed mixer are previlent here.
Flour milling ceased in the mid-1950's. Since then, operation has been purely as a feed mill of the local farmers.
This sign by the front door to the mill proudly states when it was built and the names of the flours being produced soon after that time period.
