An earlier small log mill was built probably sometime in the first two decades of the 1800's, one source has it as 1808. The log, chopping mill sawmill of Denlingers was purchased by Henry S. Rorher in 1834, whose son, Christian took over and eventually in 1852 built the new 40'X 100' brick mill that replaced Denlinger's Mill

The new Rohrer's Mill or Highland Mill was on the same site as the old mill along a bend in Calamus Run; a tributary to Little Beaver Creek, Pequea Creek, and the Susquehanna River. Rohrer enlarged the mill in 1879, installing an engine and stack on the east end. The headrace came off the Calamus Run, traveling for 1,300'to the mill, dropping 8' to provide power to the overshot wheel to grind flour, grist, corn, and operate a sawmill.

Tax recdords reveal that Christian N. Rohrern owned the mill in 1864 and by 1899, H.S. Rorher payed taxes on the property and enterprise. The mill is still operating today as a feed mill and is still in the Rorher family, producing flour.
