The mill was built in 1872 on the site of an earlier mill and operated as a buhrstone flouring mill until 1941.
The catshead has lettering on the lower curved edge: D Compton . 1898 . J B S
Much of the original equipment remains, in very good condition.
A sawmill was added; but now, the both saw and grist/flour mill are non-operational.
It was most likely remodeled in 1898, the catshead date, probably with the new roller mill equipment.
The dam spillway located behind and above the mill.
The miller's house is located directly across Sr 2001 from the mill. The tailrace flows down the narrow/walled channel seen in the foreground and crossed by a white footbridge.
The end of the sawmill addition across the tailrace.
The mill was operated in 1872 as a flour mill by Samuel Compton.
