Burger & Beck's Mill / Booth's Grist Mill
Located one mile north of Pa.100/29 on Indian Creek Rd. at Swamp Road at Indian Creek east of the vacinity of Milford Park.
A 2.5 story limestone, 40'x 55' mill. Not being used, in 1987, except perhaps for storage. In fair to good condition.
Much of previous stuccoing has weathered off. The basement plus the 2.5 stories makes an imposing sight in the wooded setting.
The mill currently on site was built in 1864 by Henry Burger and Samuel Beck.
The mill was later operated by a gentleman named George Boody. This may be how the common name for the mill, Booth's Mill, evolved.
The house several hundred feet down the road and barn across the road could possibly be the millhouse farm. The house was being restored; given its proximity to Indian Creek Road, it may have been an early tavern.
The barn is in great condition, still being used to house horse and other livestock. The bridge over Indain Creek was being rebuilt in 2007, so one had to go south on Swamp Road to Tollgate Rd. or Barman Dr. N to get to Pa 100 at Milford Park.
A wooden structure with a sawmill addition, added later, was built in 1774 by Adam Koehl. The mill has also been called "Curl MIll", an Anglecised version of the German name "Koehl".
