The 50'X 60' limstone mill of 3.5 stories was built in 1856 by Jacob & Lavina Wolf (Groff) to replace the earlier stone mill of 1750. The decorative window lintels of brick and the same brick edging under the roof line on the gable ends and under the longitudinal roof edge give an attractive, fine finish to the mill.

The earliest mill is thought to have been a c. 1730 log mill on the site built by a Wenger. Holtzborn built the second mill, a stone grist and saw mill, 30'X 40' in 1750, and bought by John Wolf in 1811. It was Wolf's Mill in 1824, probably owned by John Wolf until releasing it to Jacob & Lavina Rudy Wolf or (Groff).

Joel Wenger owned the mill in tax records for 1864, 1875 and 1899. The flour, grist, and saw mill with a capacity for 75 barrels/day production, was closed by owner/operator Clayton Wenger in 1929. The two turbines were fed from the Conestoga River by a 750' headrace from an elevation 5' higher. The 150' tailrace returned the water to the river. The mill appeared vacant or a dwelling in 1987; but by 1994, the old mill had been renovated into business offices.

*Update: It was built by my great-great-great grandparents, Jacob Wolf and Lavina Rudy Wolf in 1856. It used to be a grist mill, but now has been converted into a single-family home. A.E. Wolf 2007*
