Bower's Mill
Take Pa 663 (Layfield Rd.) SE from Pennsburg for 3 miles, turning right onto Philadelphia & Kutztown Rd. Travel another 3 miles, then turn left onto Bower's Mill Rd. and go about 1 mile. The mill is on the left on a left-hand corner just before Paper Mill Road's junction with Bower's Mill Rd.
This very well maintained 30'x50' mill of 2.5 story stature has a full basement of fieldstone plus a section of the second story also of stone where it lodges into the hillside.
The frame part is shingles painted green. A 30'x30' addition to the right side facing the front of the mill is 2.5 stories built in the same compliment as the main structure.
The mill operated until 1930, sat idle for periods of time, and had other uses at times.
In the early 1970's, the mill structure was a farm and garden supply store.
In 1992, the mill apeared to be used for storage but in excellent condition. The location is very scenic and pleasant, especially in Autumn. More info forthcoming.
