Bender's Mill / Miller's Mill
While traveling west on Pa 462, turn left on S. Manor St. in Mountville, which becomes Central Manor Road after the first mile, and go about 4.5 to 5.0 miles, having a slight jog west across Habecker Church Road and crossing Pa 999, to Supervisors Road, a hard left and Central Manor continuing on the right. Stay right for about 0.4 miles, turn left on Bender Mill Road. The mill is on the right about 0.15 miles.
The c. 1800 flour, grist, and cider mill (distillery) was constructed of limestone, 3.5 stories high 33' X 42', by Jacob or Abraham Miller. Abraham Miller owned the mill from 1800 to 1821. John Miller ran and owned the milling business in 1825.
J. Miller, perhaps the same John Miller, yet owned the mill in 1864. Abraham Miller, most probably not the same one that built the mill, paid the bills and taxes on it in 1875 and Annie M.Miller, probably Abraham's widow, was shown as owning the mill in 1899. Charles M. Bender was a later operator/owner and, more than likely, closed the mill in the early 1900's. The mill was converted into apartments by 1992 and in excellent repair.
