Beattyestown Mill / Beatty's Mill
Located along NJ 57 about 3 miles SE of Hackettstown, N.J. turnoff to Brentwood Terrace in the Village of Beattyestown.
The mill, a 3.5 story plus 40'X 60'sandstone mill, is much lower than the highway NJ 57, so could easily be missed by west to east traffic. The Beattyestown was originally known as Beatty's Mill, settled in the 1760's.
The hipped-roof mill has frame on the upper story plus. It was converted to a private residence sometime before 1992. A very attractive mill in great condition.
*Update: June 2009, the mill was for sale by ReMax Realty as the refurbished single family dwelling c.1750 grist mill with another rental house and a carriage house & barn. It has now sold, in early 2010 and is "not" currently for sale*
The back end of the mill that overlooks the Musconetcong River separating Warren Co. from Hunterdon Co. The deck wraps around three sides, with an in ground swimming pool decked about on the right side of the mill as seen in this photo.
A fireplace with adjacent visiting living space near the basement level and the entry floor level, perhaps somewhere in between.
The living area of the mill is very open, with suspended saitrs and catwalks to various nooks. This is a dining nook overlooking the previous area, also within view of the inlet archway.
The main entry area with four steps down to the previous dining nook. Many of the original support post have been utilized, sometimes for differnt purposes today.
The third story, looking toward the back corner of the mill. The balconey overlook on the rear of the mill is just to the right in the photo.
A cozy bedroom in part of the Master suite.
The inlet arch for the headrace going into the mill with the inground pool on the other side of the picket fence.
The outlet arch, still in great shape, that diverted the water back to the Musconetcong River after powering the mills mechanisms.
The Musconetcong River from the mill property.
The south face of the mill, the front to the left, the outlet arch visible and the river to the right of the trees on the right.
