Two elevations of the mill, done during the HABS project showing the rear and the left side. The wooden overshot wheel was on the left side of the mill, rear drawing, operating as a short flume or stone sluice came off the dam breast.
The king gear is located directly interior to the placement of the outer overshot wheel, operating off the same wooden axle as the outer wheel, then tranfering power to the millstone set above via the a horzontal gear attached to a vertical shaft that turned the lower (nether) stone, the upper stone fixed, not able to turn.
This schematic of the 2nd & 3rd floor space depicts the placement of the stone set and other equipment.
A view of the restored mill from across the mill pond/dam behind the mill.
