In 1987, the 3.5 story fieldstone mill was deserted, but structurally sound with a good roof. The 50'x65' mill was built in 1818 by Philip Von Nieda who had owned the previous mill since 1806.
Tax records show George Shop, Jonathan Shup, and John Shoup (Sharp)owned mills from 1750 thru 1779. The last names are all probably derivations of the same family name.
In 1764, Peter Sharp died and the property passed to John Sharp by 1779.

In 1785, Jacob Van Neida bought the mill and owned it thru 1805. Philip Van Nieda took control in 1806 and in 1818, built the new mill.
William Von Nieda's run of the mill began in 1847 when his father died. Andrew Emmerts and Fred Gross had charge from 1875 to 1899.
Clarence Martin closed the mill in 1926. The flour, grist, and corn meal mill could produce 36 barrels of flour a day at its best.
