"I pray to you, Lord! Please listen when I pray and hurry to help me. Think of my prayer as sweet-smelling incense, and think of my lifted hands as an evening sacrifice."
({Psalm 141:1 & 2 CEV})

In 1840, the grist mill, saw mill, and dam were established on the Tippecanoe River by Jacob Ryder in the small Indiana, frontier community of Wilmot. The Ryder family operated the mill through 1930, when it perished in flames. About ten years later, the mill was reopened in a barn from the Ryder property, moved to a new foundation close to the old mill location.

The barn/mill was run by a turbine and later by a gasoline engine until the late 1970's, when it closed. Pat & Walt Johnson, retired teachers, aquired the mill, in disrepair, in the early 1980's. The mill was completely refurbished, with a set of stones, weighing 2500 lbs. and an overshot waterwheel. The two upper stories served as an antique store.

Karen & Howard Leuhrs found the mill for sale, only five minutes from Karen's folks, in 1996. The mill gets its water across the street from Wilmot Pond and grinds the best possible flour and corn meal, using the millstones and the steel waterwheel. The website said the mill was closed for repairs in July 2009, but it was operating when Mr. Viebrock took the photos. The Wilmot mill sells grains and flours, baking mixes, and baking supplies and their products are available at Indiana farmer's markets, festivals, and on their website.
