Welks Mill
From the square in Littlestown at King St and Queen St., go south on S. Queen St./Sh 97 for 2 miles to Matthias Road on the left. Turn left and go about 0.1 miles to the mill on the right.
Welks Mill, located on Matthias Road, was originally a lumber mill in the 1800's. The mill had been demolished without a trace when checked in 01/2020 by Mr. Kinsey.
Later it was converted to a flour mill.
In the early 1920's, the mill was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Oliver M. Matthias and converted into a tomato canning factory operating from 1923 to 1956.
The tomatoes were packed as Top Line Brand.
In 1957, the factory was sold to their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harner, changed into a chicken business, and operated from 1958-1963. (Information Contributed by Darla Seal.)
