Samuel Wallis founded the business and built the mill. Samuel's sons inherited the mill and farm, Joe running the mill and Ralph and "Bully" doing the farm work.
Mary, a single sister, worked with the wives on the farm. Both Joe and Mary never married. It is very likely that an earlier mill belonging to the Honorable Henry Johnson & built c.1796 by Cor. George Smith was an earlier resident at this mill site.
The mill is posted and has hazard tape around parts of the structure. Mostly , I think to keep people from entering the building for liability issues.
There seems to be a penstock system feeding water to perhaps an interior waterwheel as is seen in the second to last photo.
The mill also was a source of pullet chicks and perhaps other young farm stock in the spring.
Joe, a bachelor, did grinding for many of the local farmers, also wearing the postmaster's hat, as the mill was the Moreland Township post office for many years.
The mill converted to electricity in the 1950's and the wheel (undershot wheel) was removed after it deteriorated. This sounds like and exterior wheel, since the photo shows an interior waterwheel.
The mill, in relatively fair condition, is located on private property. Water was diverted from Little Muncy Creek into a millrace, which traveled under the wheel (undershot wheel), then returned to the creek through a tailrace. The headrace approached past the sheds towards the road and the mill.
Some mention of restoration to create a mill museum has been voiced. GPS: 41D 11.38'N, 76D 39.14'W Hughesville Quadrangle
