Wagoner-Hershey Grist Mill
Frm Parkesburg, Two miles south of US 30, follow Sh 10/Octoraro Trail, changing to Compass Road, north to the village of Compass. Turn right on Honeybrook Road/Sh 10 and right again in less than 0.2 miles on a dead end road. You've gone too far on Sh 10 if you get to Old Telegraph Rd.
The mill is about 35'X 45' in footprint, standing 3.5 stories with one side burrowed into an embankment.
The frame tenent farmer's house was built c. 1850.
The miller's house with additions to keep up with living styles; still, part of which probably looks very much as it did in the early 1800's externally.
There is record of a mill at this site in the early 1740's; although, this may not be the same mill. If it is, it was pbrobably rebuilt in the early 1800's.
The uphill side of the mill showing the water inlet arch thast has since been filled in with stone.
