Shoen's/W. Trimble Mill
At Pa 100/Pottstown Pike and 103 Shoen Road/Shoen's Mill Road 1 mile north of US 30 at Exton.
A 3.5 story fieldstone mill roughly 40'X 55' in size. Was in good condition and used for storage in October 1987. Located about 700 feet west of Pa 100/N. Pottstown Road on Shoen Road just past the creek.
The Trimbles, after inter-marrying with the Thomas family, acquired land in the Township in 1757 and had established a saw mill and grist mill by 1790. The grist mill, under William J. Trimble, tripled in output between 1850-1869, but by 1880 had ceased operation.
The mill was sold in 1889 to Henry C. Forrest of Phila., who had it converted into a carrage house and stable for his hunting horses. Two years later he sold it to Charles Porter, also from Phila. Porter quarried flint stone on the property in the early 20th century. It remained in the Porter family until 1946.
