Reider's Grist Mill
From Pa 73 at Manatawny, about three miles east of Oley, turn north on Covered Bridge Road for one mile, angle right onto Oysterdale Road and procede north about 3-3.5 miles. The mill and miller's house are just off Oysterdale Road onto Rolling Rock Road on the right side. Can be seen from the junction.
The rear of the grist mill as seen from the approach along Rolling Rock Road immediately prior to the junction with Oysterdale Road after crossing over the township line into Pike Twp. from District Twp.
Reider's Grist Mill miller's house, probably dating back to the first third of the 19th century.
Reider's Grist Mill, situated on the line between Pike Twp. & District Twp., was a small mill that served the needs of the local farmers in this hilly, wooded section of eastern Berks County almost 200 years ago.
The raceway to the mill must have come from Oysterdale Creek on the otherside of Rolling Rock Road and entered the mill through the arch on the left side of the mill in the photo. The other side toward the creek is lower ground and would have facilitated the tail race through another arch opening to channel water back to the creek.
Another view of the mill proper, showing the thickness of the walls and the placement of the front doors.
