Osceola Mill
Exit I-64 at exit 205 for Steeles Tavern via Sh 606. Turn left on Sh 851 just before Steeles Tavern. Cross over US 11 and continue for another 0.7 miles on Sh 56 to the mill on the right.
The 35"X 55' mill is the largest one to be built on Marl Creek. The 2.5 story frame structure on a limstone foundation was operated from 1849 to 1969, under the ownership of several familes, operating as a water powered stone ground mill, later as a roller mill and finally ran as a feed mill operated by a hammermill.
The wheel used to operate the mill measures 28'X 3.5'. The mill is constructed of chestnut timbers, strong and tough, and are still in good shape today. Flour sold today at the Osceola Mill Country Inn is Flavo Self-rising ground flour ground at Wade's Mill, located about 7.5 miles west of here, beyond Raphine a few miles on Sh 606.
The mill at 347 Tye River Turnpike, is part of a Bed & Breakfast establishment which also includes the 1875 Victorian miller's house- 7 rooms, a Honeymoon Cabin that has a millstone embedded into the outside of the stone chimney. The cabin also features a deck and a whirlpool tub.
The mill itself has five questrooms, each with its own bathroom, a large dining room, a common room and a commercial kitchen. All the rooms at the B & B have an abundance of antiques. Porches, rockers an outdoor pool, and trails in wooded settings and streamside complete the picture of a perfect vacation getaway.
