Old Stone Paper Mill
Located on the corner of Smoketown Rd and Pa. 216 north of Brodbecks, Pa and 6 miles south of Jefferson.
The mill was built as either a flour mill or a paper mill in c. 1790-1796. The mill was used for the secondary purpose somewhere along in its history. It was sometimes known as Seitzville Flour Mill, not to be confused with the brick Seitzville Mill on Pa 616 in Codorus Twp. at Seitzville.
The mill today is used as a craft shop specializing in Floral decor wedding decor and arrangement, & cake designing among other things.
The mill was a pottery-making factory and store prior to its current use.
The man that owns the Snyder's Mill, an operating feed mill, just south on Pa 216 at Glenville said that he never heard the mill referred to as a paper mill. He always knew it to be a grist mill.
A remarkable job has been done in restoring/renovating the old mill sructure. *Update: This mill operated from 1792-1844 as a paper mill.Land was purchased from the Penn family by Jacob Keller family and for two generations made paper out of rags. We also understand that it was a part of the undergroud railroad and possibly an orphanage at one time. We are currently living on this property and doing research on it. Ray Gass 07/21/2007*
