Moffatt's Creek Roller Mill / Smilely Mill / E.B. Lucas Mill
Travel south of Stanton, located on the east side of Rte 252, just south of Newport, near Mt. Hermon Road/Sh 681 junction.
The old, original water mill at this location was known as Smiley's Mill, the Enos B. Licas Mill, and later Moffatt's Creek Roller Mill.
The original mill, which burned in the 1920's, was rebuilt, continued operations, and was later renovated into a private residence.
Thomas M. Smiley, was a farmer, a stockraiser, & the owner of the Roller Mills at Moffatt's Creek in 1899. Josiah A. Robinson may also owned or operated the Moffatt's Roller Mills at some or else another flour and chopping mill at Moffatts Creek near this same time period.

Notice the rebuilt mill, sometime in the late 1920's-early 1930's, has the large 25' diameter & 3' wide steel overshot water wheel partially visible behind the right hand side.
The old Lucas Mill was on the site prior to the current mill and burned in the 1920's. This vintage photo, source unknown, documents a portion of the mills history.
The newer mill is perched on a steep hillside overlooking the brushy canyon of Moffatt's Creek. GPS: 37' 59.09N, 79' 18.05W 1.696' El
