Lepanto Flax Mill-replacement
In New Hope, Pa. about 0.25 miles west of Pa 32 on Pa 179, angle right onto W.Ferry St. After about 250-300 feet, turn right onto Old Mill Road. Both the mill converted to apartments and the house/mill rebuilt on the foundations of the flax mill, the Lepanto Mills, are on the left.
This 45'X 50' 2.5 story mill replica was built on the very foundations of the Old Lepanto Flax Mill.
The flax mill processed flax and hemp until 1860, when it closed.
The woolen mill was renovated into apartments prior to 1987, but this mill was nothing more than a few walls. Sometime , around the year 2000, someone built a stone home in the form of an old mill, not exactly the twin to the woolen mill, but very nice.
Part of the old flax mill is incorporated within the walls of the new replica mill. The inlet arch to the old mill, through which the raceway from Aquetong Creek used to run.
