From Winston Salem, go north on SR 67 about 12 miles toward the village of East Bend. Shortly before coming to East Bend, turn left (south) on Butner Mill Road and go about 1.2 miles to the mill on the right at 2440 Butner Mill Road, East Bend.

The machinery in this towering old mill has been restored and the owner grinds a small amount of corn each year.
Nearby is the miller’s house with ornate decorative trim.
The large 12-14 foot diameter metal waterwheel is supplied with water by a 2 foot diameter steel penstock.
A differeent angle of the penstock and distribution box above the overshot wheel. Unique, in that the angle of the penstock would cause one to think the wheel would turn in the opposite direction that it does turn.
The mill is located on Butner Mill Road, which turns off Highway 67, and is open only by appointment.
A better view of the long, over 200 feet, penstock that supplies the water of a tributary of the Yadkin River to the wheel.
