Glenmoore Feed Mill
From Pa 282 in the village of Glenmoore, go northeast on Park Lane about 300 yards to the mill on the left, just before the Brandywine Creek. It sits about 100 feet off the road.
The old Glenmoore Feed Mill today, remodeled into a private, family dwelling. Need some history information for this mill please.
A photo from about 14 years previous, shows pier blocks leading up to the cut-away side. Cut-away was to enable railroad cars to get as close as possible for loading & unloading. The rails were ridng on the piers leading to the mill building.
The 2009 photo of the view from the last picture. The cut-away has been preserved on the renovated home to keep the structure as authentic as possible.
The ground level on this end of the track side was high enough, not to warrant piers to support the railroad siding.
The main door of the mill, the same height as the railcar doorways were, was used when loading & unloading rail cars. A steel plate could be dropped in place and anchored to either the railcar and/or the doorway or possibly a narrow loading platform.
A very nice example of adaptive use of an old historic structure. GPS: 75' 46.18W, 40' 50.21N
