The main building in this complex was constructed in two parts. The first two floors were built c 1865, of post and beam construction by John Butler Smith, who purchased the existing Marcy Mill Company.
The third & fourth floors were lighter saw-cut timber added in the late 1800's. A three story addition was added later.
As a teenager (1960's) I lived with my family in our home on Bridge Street next to the river, falls, and active railroad. This house now, sadly showing it's age, appears to be chopped up into small apartment rentals. I do, however, have such fond memories overlooking the falls and the mills that were so active during that time period. This was when we still had the covered railroad bridge behind our home with the clattering of the train slowing down to a stop at the crossing (just at the bottom of the hill) Later on, I worked for a short while part time at the woolen mill spinning yarn. It was an experience I never forgot. Tena Carpenter Ellinwood.
