Chandler's Mill / Harlan Grist Mill
The mill is located on the west side of Sh 7, on Old Milltown Road/Road 318C, south of Milltown Road in the town of Milltown.
A grist mill was originally built on this site in 1746. GPS: 75' 40.02W, 39' 43.46N
The present stone mill was built c. 1815-1816 by Caleb Harlan and continued in operation until the 1890's.
The previous mill, dating from 1746, was also owned by the Harlans, at least from 1777 to the building of the newer 1815 mill of random rubble masonry.
Records indicate the site was used for milling of grain. Changes reflected in the later additions may be from changes in milling use or changes due to the conversion into a dwelling.
The mill, used as a barn in 1937, was owned by the Harlan family from 1777 to 1852. The millers house, across the road, was built in the late 1860's.
At some point since the 1940's, the mill was converted into a dwelling. The mill was owned by Harry A. Brinton in 1937.
