This mill replaced the previous Avoca Mill from 1926, which was located on the same site and which burned in 1954. This mill, several blocks west of the Avoca Flour Mill, came about when the generator of the flour mill ceased to be used for power, flour ceased to be made, & the business converted to being a feed mill at this new location. This picture was taken shortly after the mill opened in 1958 in the former Railroad depot. The Kelly 3 ton Duplex Vertical Feed Mixers can be seen in this picture. The unique thing about them was that they were rarer double- augered models, as most mills only had single augered models. See the Avoca Flour Mill page for more history.

Avoca Feed Service was founded by Don Parrell in 1958, at which time he purchased the former railroad depot building and converted it into a feed mill. The people in the picture, taken in 1958, are mill owner Don Parrell, left, and his son Dave on the right.

Over the years, the mill sold a variety of feeds, inlcuding Wayne Feeds and Yoder Feeds. Avoca Feed Service was sold in 1976 to B & L Ag-Service of Highland, Wi. B & L Ag Service operated the mill for several years, and then sold it to Curtis Kauffman in the early 1980's. Again, a 1958 photo of Don and Dave Parrell on the mill loading dock.

Avoca Feed Service closed its doors on December 31, 1997, after faithfully serving area farmers for many years. It is currently owned by the village of Avoca, and is used for storage.
