The uphill end of the 40'X 50' mill has a possible date stone under the sack hoist, but the date was not noted. The Mill has gone by other names according to various owners and/or operaters: John Bracken's Mill (1768) the original owner/builder, McGrew's Mill (1782), Wierman's Mill (1787), Godfrey's Mill (1792), Myers' Mill (1808), Wolford's Mill (1841), Stambaugh's Mill (1871), Stitzel's Mill (1899), Heybergers Mill (1900), Paxton's Mill (1906), Group's Mill (1906), Ricker's Mill (1919), Mummert's Mill (1925), and Ernst's Mill (1925-1944). The last info was taken from relicrecoverist.com headed by Jocelyn Elizabeth, founder & creator, and Andrew Waholek, partner & sales.

The main gear, no doubt coming from an internal waterwheel, here transfers the direction of power to a vertical shaft, probably to turn sets of grindstones on an upper floor.

Stairs coming down from the first floor to the basement. The faithful mill dog keeps watch on activities. Plans of the new owner are to stabilize the mill concerning several serious issues.

Several grindstone sets and other equipment. The interior seems fairly well preserved. *Update: Tax records indicate ownership of the mill was as follows: 1787-1792, William Wierman; 1792-1799, William Godfrey; 1799-1808, Stephen Foulk; 1808-1842, George Myers; 1842-1871, Peter Wolford; 1871-1899, Michael Stambaugh; & 2007/08, Dave Myers, the current owner. An apparatus on the second floor. Quite similar to the belt driven mechanism for operating the sack hoist to raise and lower sacks of feed, grain & corn to the upper stories. If this is that mechanism, it is not certain how the rope was fed to the next story and turned 90 degree angles to run to the gable ends.

The mill is located at 901 Mountain Road at the junction with Mill/Hill Rd. More info needed for this mill. I've seen some photos where this mill was being torn down? The mill was torn down sometime between 2010 and 2020. Jim Miller 04/03/2020.
