The mill, built in 1806 same as Helfrich Springs Grist Mill , was built also by a Peter but in this case, Peter Kern, for whomm Kernville was named. The mill was in fair to good condition in 1982, poor condition in 2001 with the roof caving in, and being restored in June 2007.

Datestone on highway side of mill reads: Peter Kern, 1806. Another sign, hidden by the sapling trees, advertises Wayne Feeds. Forgot to get pictures of both in 2007.

Kern's Mill is 3.5 stories high with 4 doors to the bag hoist/catshead. Overall dimensions are about 40'X 50'.

The mill on the corner of Kernville Road and Grist Mill Road. The road opposite Grist Mill Road is Hoffmansville Road, which leads back to Pa 309 after 2 miles.

The millrace archway into the building is at left rear corner of mill beyond the dam wall when facing the rear of the mill.

Note: The outlet arches for the return water to the creek below the dam are at the rear of the mill. The large arch on the roadside of the mill is also an outlet arch, but doesen't seem to drain anywhere right now.

The dam probably isn't original to the mill as stone would more likely to have been used rather than concrete.
