Ruins: Keyser Mill

Take a right off US 422 onto Egypt Road when traveling north on US 422. Take a left onto Cider Mill Road, go about 0.5 miles, and turn right on Freedom Valley Drive. Continue about 0.5 miles, turn right on Upper Indian Head Road, go about 0.2 miles and turn left onto Lower Indian Head Road. Go almost to the end of Lower Indian Head Road (used to be Mill Dam Road) and look for the ruins on the right side, in the brush.

This photo shows the dam on the Perkiomen only several hundred feet upstream of the mill ruins. The Perkiomen Creek furnished power to a turbine that in turn, furnished power to 3 run of grindstones.

The ruins consist of a few stone walls. This photo shows the inlet arch of the former 3 story frame mill with stone foundation. The mill was operated by the Keyser family from 1855 until it closed in 1923.

This photo was taken of the ruins looking south, standing along the exterior wall where the inlet arches allowed the headrace to enter the mill. This photo was taken 180 degrees to, in other words, parallel to the location in the photo below, except that photo was taken over this wall, looking in the same direction - south.
