The exact dimensions of the New England styled silk / cotton mill are not readily available. The mill was built in 1813 by William Maris as a cotton spinning and weaving mill.
Until 1936, when it partially burned, it operated as a cotton yarn mill; then it was rebuilt and was under the direction of Joshua Whitely.
It kept almost 50 employees busy making it one of New Hopes major enterprises from 1864-1887.
A modern day residence has been built inside the ruins walls, actually incorporating some of the existing walls for some of the house structure.. The original mill was 4 or 5 stories in height, busy with machinery. The ruins are now in a controlled state or rate of decay. GPS: 40' 21.6'N, 74' 57.86'W Ele. 125'/38 meters Lambertville Quadrangle
