The 40'X 35' cement block and frame was built to replace the 2 story 40'X 50' 1815 stone mill that was destroyed by fire in 1925, caused by the steam engine used to power the companion saw mill. The new mill, built by Joseph Connelly, operated into 1969. The mill was retrofitted in 1995 to manufacture wood products.

The earliest mill was probably built about 1750 by Johannes Stauffer, whose former 1756 house is situated across the street.

The early 1800's stone mill was built either by Martin Stauffer or Jonathan Stauffer around 1805-1815. *Update: The mill was purchased in 1894 by Jeremiah H. Witmeyer; he lived there and ran the mill til it was destroyed by fire in 1925. Mr. Witmeyer's great, grandson supplied this information. Frank Haus 02/02/2006*
