Most of the first settlers came from Georgia, North and South Carolina and Virginia. Often they were large slave owners.

An old house close by, possibly the miller's house. *Update: 01/13/2019 - This Mill belonged to my grandfather Cody Eugene Hagler & grandmother Estelle Cornelia Price/Hagler, Louisville, Ala. Cody was the grandson of Wilburn Hagler who purchased the mill from Emmanuel Herring , T.C. Efurd, and E.C. Efurd. Deed dated October 15, 1979 recorded in Book 14, page 522. Cody's Mother Ida Baker lived near the mill with her sister during the Civil War, in which I believe to be what we called the Guest House by the mill and store. Cheryl Newmans
