The first mention found for a mill on this property was in 1868, when Yerkes and Jones sold this property to Joseph Barnard and Joel B. Pusey.

The land was known as the "Bark Mill Tract". In 1868, there was a steam powered sawmill located on the mill site.

In 1886 the property was owned by William J. Pusey and Samuel M. Wilson. In 1892, W. J. Pusey owned the mill in its entirety.

One report says the mill burned in 1895 and was replaced by Pusey with the present mill, grinding feed and flour. Later the mill was known as J. L. Pennock and Co., and then as Pennock and Brosius Excelsior Flour Mills.

There is a date stone in the west wall indicating that it may have been built in 1906 by Pennock and Brosius. This is the side of the mill that had the elevated walkway over to a large steel tank in some of the next photos.

The Excelsior Roller Mill replaced the old W. J. Pusey Mill in June 1906, after the old frame mill burned.

Later the mill was purchased by Chapman Industries who later sold it to Carborundum. After going through a few more sales, the mill complex was owned by Edlon Inc., a unit of Robbins and Myers Inc. in 2010.
