Springfield Mill

From Old Bethlehem Pike south of Fort Washington 3 miles turn right onto Wissahickon Avenue for 1 mile, then left onto Stenton Avenue followed by a right onto Northwest Av. Go past Morris Arboretum and turn into lane for Bloomfield Farms, branching off on the first left to mill. It you get to Germantown Avenue, you've gone too far on Northwest Av.

Springfield Mill

The mill is owned by the Univ. of Pennsylvania-Morris Arboretum as part of Bloomfield Farms. The 35'x40' fieldstone/stucco structure operated with a turbine and some equipment remains. Three doors to an unusual catshead at the edge of the roofline. Also unusual is the unique window/vent above the datestone. Wissahickon Cr. flows right behind the mill bldg. Built by the Streeper family in 1825. The 3.5 story mill was known as Piper/Streeper Mill and also Springfield Mill during its milling history and last operated in 1907.
