The mill sits on the northwest corner of the junction of Wildwood Pike and the Little River, northeast of Maryville.

Permission was granted in 1795 to Andrew Kennedy to build a saw and grist mill on Little River. An interesting feature about this mill is that Kennedy discovered and used a natural tunnel through the rocks for a millrace which can still be used today.

At one time Alexander Kennedy operated this mill. In 1814 he was manufacturing gun powder as well as operating the saw mill and flour mill.

Alexander also built flatboats 60 to 80 feet long, which were used to transport his and other people's produce to market down stream in the 1840's.

Kennedy's mill was washed away in a flood in 1875. The mill was rebuilt and operated by Jack Rorex. In 1900, the mill, owned by a man named Harris, was washed away again by a flood.

Again the mill was rebuilt and owned by James R. Harris from 1912 to 1935 when he sold it to E. A. Walker. The mill is a private, residential dwelling today. GPS: 35° 47.57'N, 83° 53.21'W 899' elevation Knoxville Quadrangle
