Verse for Thought
Tho' Satan should buffet, tho' trials should come,...Christ hath regarded my helpless estate...It is well with my soul. "It is Well with My Soul" by Horatio G. Spafford 1828-1888

Early to middle 18th century grist mill located in Spring Valley, Pa. which contains about six such grist mills in a five square mile area. The original mill was 30'x40', 2 stories in height. Fredendall Historic Restorations stabalized the building in 1995 in preparation to convert the interior of the structure into a suitable facility for musical concert performances. This was accomplished beautifully without compromising the mills outer or inner integrity.

This rear view captures the bow in the roofline and stone walls. The extension of the building is peceptable on the south side to the left of the last sacklift door arrangement where the iron 'S' of the steel reinforcing rod goes thru the flooring south wall to north wall.

The crooked wall resulted from too much soil being placed against the north wall in the 19th century when a 30'x20' fieldstone addition was added onto the mill which involved the removing of the east-rear wall and increasing the height overall by half a story. This produced the resultant bow in the north and south walls and rooflines.

The photo shows the upper side of the mill. The millrace came in from the left. This side is convex when looked at from the front. The garage in the next photo is on the right side of the photo, directly across from the mill on the corner.
