This mill was always operated by the Wierman family. In the early years the mill was powered by a wooden waterwheel. Later it was replaced by two turbines.

Comparing the large quoin stones on the left corner of the mill in both the above current picture and the vintage photo, start with the large foot thick quion about 2.5 feet above grade. Then the next one up, about 5 feet above the grass line-follow each of these quions to the right and compare with the next stones on the same level. The same shapes are found. This also is true of the fourth and sixth(the shorter moss covered that slopes at a 45 degree angle toward the center of the mill. Also the window opening was filled in with smaller native, red fieldstone - this also shows on the vintage photo. Both photos are definitely of the same mill.

The first mill was probably a log mill; but by 1798, it was a stone structure. The chronology of mill owners is as follows: William Wierman 1738; Nicholas Wierman, Sr. 1764; Nicholas Wierman heirs 1800; Nicholas Wierman, Jr. 1803; Nicholas Wierman, Jr. heirs 1841; Joseph Wierman 1844; Joseph Wierman heirs 1880; John W. Wierman 1883.
