This mill is located on Mill Road, just north of US 20 at the west end of the town of New Lebanon. Mill Road is a short road that intersects with US 20.

Major Elisha Gilbert is generally credited with being the builder of this mill c. 1770, although it was only 1.5 stories when built.

Gilbert is believed to have sold the mill to Joseph Adams in 1820, shortly before his death.

The Adams family operated the mill, with a 300' headrace, for over 100 years. In 1850, when William H. Adams ran the mill, it had 3 run of stone, one being for grinding gypsum plaster.

There is also a 2 story frame saw mill on the property that was last used in 1906 and repaired and renovated for a studio about 1978-79.

Joseph Adams Jr. and his son Arthur B. Adams, ran the mill in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

An old vintage photo of Elm Tree Flouring Mills from late 18800's/early 1900's. Arthur Adams' son-in-law, Morris G. Bowman was the last operator of the mill, which closed in 1955, as a result of government health concerns.

The miller's house for the saw mill at Elm Tree Mills. The additional story is thought to have been added to the saw mill in the mid 19th century.

The present mill is 50' X 27'. The additional story is thought to have been added to the mill in the mid 19th century. Most of the equipment was removed when the mill closed in 1955. In 2009, the owners use the mill for a home and the saw mill for a studio.
