Fulton Flax Mill

Take Md 272 east from the community of Culvert about five miles to Little Elk Creek Road, turn right and drive to the bridge on the left. At the bridge keep right on Kirk Rd. As you go up the hill, round the bend to the left and start down the hill. The mill will be on the left, beside the road.

William Fulton, a clothier, carder and fuller of wool, came to Cecil Co. before the Revolution and later established a fulling mill on his creek property in 1811.

Local tradition has pinpointed this relatively small two-bay stone structure, with its 1811 datestone, as Fulton's mill building. The miller's house is located across Kirk Road from the mill. Walnut Valley Farm-1787.
